Key and Hide make things formal.

Hide will be appointed a minister outside of cabinet.

The 'outside of cabinet' bit is a bit disappointing but I guess we have to take what we can get at this stage. Roger Douglas will be able to make his presence felt regardless.

Get over the Roger Douglas thing already!! Do you really think no lessons were learnt? A man who is a self-made mulit-millionaire is now in charge of the country - do you really think he is going to take advice from a man who did such damage to the country?? It's history - move on!!

I'm not sure what you're implying of whether you have any degree of insider knowledge about how the Nats and ACTs are planning to run things, but as someone on the inside I can assure that Roger Douglas is of course going to be a key aspect of this government. He is a very important member of the ACT Party. In fact, his policies are the very basis of the ACT Party's existence. This is to be an ACT/National coalition, and I don't just hope but I expect that social spending will be cut and privatisation will occur accordingly. And I don't see that this is going to be a problem at all.

Of course we will go easy in the beginning, but after we get re-elected in 2011 then that will be a proper mandate for change and we will finally be able to head in the direction of the US, who have had it right for all these years.

And many of us here, including Mr Douglas, are self-made millionaires ourselves. We didn't get there by giving all our money away in taxes to people who are too stupid to deserve them.
